These are a list of all of the makeup brands in Superdrug and what their policies are on animal testing and if they are vegan! Some of them are cruelty free but sell in China, some don't and some do test on animals. Hopefully this list will make things a lot easier when it comes to drugstore makeup shopping for some people!
Quick reminder: The leaping bunny logo (below) certifies that the product has been named 'cruelty free' under the internationally recognised Humane Cosmetics/Humane Household Products Standards and means that the product has not been tested on animals in the UK or anywhere else in the world (including sales in China).
In my point of view; If a company truly doesn't believe in animal testing then regardless of profit or any other element then it should not sell to China. China have a law in their country that no products are allowed to be sold there unless they are tested on animals, however Chinese citizens can purchase from online sites which sell makeup which has not been tested on animals. Just because a product hasn't been tested on an animal does not mean that its not safe. There are many ways now for humans to check if a product is safe other than using an animal to do so- one of these methods being testing products on human skin donated from plastic surgery.

CRUELTY FREE. - this company is cruelty free but they sell in China, products they sell there won't be cruelty free.
100% CRUELTY FREE. - this company is cruelty free and does NOT sell in China.
2True Cosmetics: Yet to hear back from this company to see whether its cruelty free or vegan. There is no information on their website about either!
Accessorise: 100% CRUELTY FREE. Accessorize explain on the ethical trading section of their website "We have zero tolerance for animal cruelty in our supply chain. All our suppliers are required to sign up to our animal welfare policy as a condition of doing business with us. No animal testing is carried out on our cosmetics or fragrances during production or on the finished products."
B. Makeup: VEGAN. 100% CRUELTY FREE. This whole makeup range is both vegan and cruelty free and is owned by superdrug themselves, whose own brand of skincare is also cruelty free! All products have the leaping bunny logo on which mean that the products are not tested on animals in the UK or anywhere else around the world.
Barry M: VEGAN OPTIONS AVAILABLE. CRUELTY FREE. This company are not fully vegan as they use ingredients like beeswax in some of their products but products that are vegan will have this sign '
' on. In their cruelty free section on their website they explain that they have never and will never condone any sort of animal testing with their products or any manufacturers the work with.

"Through working with HSI, we have now gone one step further and pledged not to permit our products to be sold in countries such as China whilst they require additional new animal testing. We have also pledged not to use new ingredients that become available in the future unless their safety can be assessed entirely without animal testing." this means that Barry M do currently sell in China but are working towards removing their brand from the Chinese market.
Bourjois Paris: CRUELTY FREE. In Bourjois FAQ's it says they do not conduct animal testing, but that's simply all that they say. But they DO sell their products in China, so they test on animals with those products and don't say no to animal testing and in my eyes they are selling to China simply to get a profit and if they truly didn't believe in animal testing they would stop selling to China.
Collection Cosmetics: CRUELTY FREE. On their website it states "Collection Cosmetics, or any third party acting on our behalf, has never conducted and will never conduct any animal testing on any of our products. The European safety assessments conducted on our products do not require animal test data.". This company also do not sell in China. Kelly from thevegantaff.com contacted them about the ingredients they use and they replied with "We can confirm that our company do not test any ingredients on animals. However, we cannot confirm that a third party has never tested an ingredient on animals. Some ingredients have been around for a long time and also they have been animal tested for non-cosmetic purposes (e.g. for use in medicinal products). Since 2009, all new cosmetic ingredients are not animal tested as this is stipulated in the EU Cosmetics Regulations."
Essie: Essie is owned by L'Oreal who are on PETA's list of companies that DO test on animals.
Freedom Makeup: 100% CRUELTY FREE. Freedom Makeup is owned by Makeup Revolution and both of these companies claim to be cruelty free. On their website they say "No we do not test on animals." in their FAQ section. They have the same values as Makeup Revolution which is shown below.
GOSH Cosmetics: VEGAN OPTIONS AVAILABLE. CRUELTY FREE. GOSH cosmetics are listed on PETA as a brand who do not take part in animal testing. In their FAQ's it states "GOSH Cosmetics does not use animals to test any of our products or ingredients. Neither do we commission others to perform animal tests. Moreover it is prohibited by European law to test cosmetic products or ingredients on animals."
L'Oreal Paris: Listed on PETA's list of brands which DO test on animals. In L'Oreal's animal testing section they claim "The Group no longer tests on animal, anywhere in the world, and does not delegate this task to others. An exception could be made if regulatory authorities required it for safety or regulatory purposes." I would not trust this brand until they are on either PETA or the leaping bunny programme or state it on their products properly & stop selling to China.
Brands they own: Essie, Garnier, Biotherm, Cacharel, Giorgio Armani, Helena Rubinstein, Kerastase, Kiehls, Lancome, LaRoche Posay, Matrix, Mixani, Redken, Shu Uemura, Softsheen, Vichy and Viktor & Rolf.
Makeup Revolution: 100% CRUELTY FREE. Makeup revolution have on their FAQ's "We can confirm that we do not test our products nor ingredients on animals and neither do any third parties (and we are not owned by a parent company). We cannot claim that our products are vegan friendly." and they do actually ship to China on their website. Kelly from thevegantaff.com emailed them about this and they replied saying "We can confirm that we do not test our finished products nor ingredients on animals and neither do any third parties (and we are not owned by a parent company). We do not sell in China. We cannot claim products which are vegan friendly but we are looking into these claims next year as we get a lot of requests on this. "
Max Factor: Listed on PETA's list of companies that DO test on animals and are owned by Procter & Gamble who test on animals also.
Maybelline: Maybelline is owned by L'Oreal who are on PETA's list of companies that DO test on animals.
Models Own: 100% CRUELTY FREE. VEGAN OPTIONS AVAILABLE. In Models Own 'Furry Friendly' section they say "Our approach to animal testing is simple. We don’t do it. We don’t test our finished products or ingredients on any animals. End of." They also do not ship to China.
MUA: 100% CRUELTY FREE. MUA have written on their site "We are pleased to confirm that our MUA products and their ingredients are not tested on animals." They also do not sell their products in China, there is an option for people in China to buy products from their online website (products will be exported from the UK and will be cruelty free because they don't have to pass the Chinese authorities needs unless they are sold IN China).
New York Colour (NYC): NYC are owned by Coty who test on animals and sell products in China. Coty also own Rimmel.
Revlon: Listed on PETA's list of companies that DO test on animals. They sell their products in china and Revlon also own many brands that test on animals and are also on this list including: Almay, Gatineau and Sinful Colors.
Real Techniques: VEGAN. CRUELTY FREE. Real Techniques brushes are both 100% Vegan and Cruelty free. On their website it states "Our products are 100% cruelty-free. We never test products on animals."
Rimmel London: Although on Rimmels animal testing section on their website they dot around the question of actually testing on animals. They do actually test on animals which has been found here. They sell their products in China and any company that sells in China will test on animals, as Chinese authorities only accept products which have been tested on animals. Rimmel are owned by a company called Coty who sell brands in China and test on animals.
Sleek: VEGAN OPTIONS AVAILABLE. CRUELTY FREE. Sleek say on their FAQ's "we do don't conduct tests on animals." which to me seems very weird that they haven't gone into detail more and are not listed on either leaping bunny or PETA. However, Kelly form thevegantaff.com contacted them and this is what they said: We can confirm that we do not test our products or ingredients on animals nor do we commission third parties to do so on our behalf. We will not sell our products in China until they change their policies on animal testing".
Tanya Burr Cosmetics: CRUELTY FREE. Owned by Eyecandy London who are also cruelty free (found by Ellen from www.ellenbourne.blogspot.co.uk)
